Coexist Podcast (Ep. 20) - Coe talks with Debbie Ethell - Founder The KOTA Foundation for Elephants
Debbie Ethell has followed a group of more than 400 elephants since she was eight years old. As a conservation research scientist she realizes how important it is to share what she’s learned with others.
In 2015 she founded The KOTA Foundation for Elephants as a way to teach people in the United States all of the extraordinary things she learned about elephants as a way to support positive outcomes for their survival.
In 2019 Debbie published her best-selling memoir “The Will of Heaven: An Inspiring True Story About Elephants, Alcoholism, and Hope” which captured her serendipitous journey (and hard fought battle) overcoming addiction intertwined with the stories of her beloved elephants which gave her the strength and courage to never give up. Due to The Will of Heaven’s enormous success one book has now been turned into a series of three. The second in the series is scheduled for release in 2023.

Coexist Podcast (Ep. 18) - Coe talks with Jeff Kremer about the the video THE CONSERVATION GAME!
THE CONSERVATION GAME
Set against the backdrop of a heated national debate on captive big cats in America, THE CONSERVATION GAME follows the story of Tim Harrison, a retired cop who makes a bombshell discovery while undercover at an exotic animal auction. He starts to suspect that America’s top television celebrity conservationists may be secretly connected to the exotic pet trade. What follows is a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, filled with lies, deception, and coverups.
As his investigation leads deeper into the secret world of the big cat trade, Tim and his team take their fight to the halls of Congress, pressing lawmakers to pass federal legislation that would end the private breeding and exploitation of these endangered and majestic animals. But when opposition comes from an unexpected source, Tim is forced to face the demons of his own past, while wrestling with the consequences of exposing his childhood hero.

Coexist Podcast (Ep. 13) - Coe talks with Zambesia Conservation Alliance (ZCA)
The Zambesia Conservation Alliance (ZCA) was founded in March 2020 by Robin, Luke and Suzanne Brown. Their diverse skill set is evident from their biographies. This dynamic founding team foresaw the need for a passion-driven, well-coordinated, and concerted wide scale effort to address some of the most significant challenges facing wildlife conservation and community upliftment in the Zambesia region. The Zambesia area spans more than 1,2 million square kilometers, across 7 countries and is home to some of the globe’s most pristine biodiversity, which includes the largest remaining African elephant population on Earth and 10% of the world’s carnivore population. Habitat loss is the biggest threat to this landscape.

Coe talks with Michelle Lute of Project Coyote & Heidi Perryman of Worth A Dam
Michelle Lute is part of the Project Coyote. Project Coyote is a national non-profit organization based in Northern California whose mission is to promote compassionate conservation and coexistence between people and wildlife through education, science and advocacy. Our representatives, advisory board members and supporters include scientists, educators, ranchers and citizen leaders who work together to change laws and policies to protect native carnivores from abuse and mismanagement, advocating coexistence instead of killing. We seek to change negative attitudes toward coyotes, wolves and other misunderstood predators by replacing ignorance and fear with understanding, respect and appreciation.

Heidi Perryman is a child psychologist who became an ‘accidental’ beaver advocate when a family moved into her hometown creek. She started the non-profit ‘Worth A Dam’ to defend the beavers in Martinez - along the way becoming interested in helping other cities learn how and why to co-exist with these important animals. Since 2008 she has organized an annual beaver festival and taught others about their key role in the ecosystem. Beavers are especially needed in this state as their dams increase biodiversity and offer protection to our dwindling salmon population. As California faces ever more drought years and fire events, Heidi believes it is essential to coexist with these important ‘water-savers’.
