Dr. Joanna Grossman leads the equine program and is a lobbyist for the Animal Welfare Institute in Washington, DC. She was previously the organization’s federal policy advisor, advocating for a wide range of animal protection issues on Capitol Hill.

Her writings and work have been featured in or covered by numerous media outlets including The Hill, Roll Call, Politico, NBC News, Newsweek, the Daily Caller, and the Washington Examiner. Her chapter on political advocacy for animal protection causes was published in the Routledge Handbook of Animal Ethics. Joanna has an A.B. from Princeton University and studied as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Oxford before earning her doctorate from Harvard University.

Joanna serves on the advisory boards for Predator Defense and Sinergia Animal, as well as on the steering committee for the Homes for Horses Coalition. Originally from rural Texas, Joanna lives in the Washington, DC area with her husband, two daughters, and two rescue dogs.
