Remembering Webby Banda!

Dear friends and supporters of Nsefu Wildlife,

Many of you may have received word already about the incredibly tragic death of our beloved Nsefu Wildlife Ranger Webby Banda.

Webby and our rangers were conducting a night patrol and during their operation, they made the decision to return to camp due to diminished visibility in the field with cloud cover. They accidentally came upon a sleeping herd of elephants in the darkness and dispersed quickly when they realized the danger of their situation. In running for safety...Webby unfortunately ran directly into ANOTHER herd and was killed. We are absolutely devastated by this tragedy. It is every conservation foundation’s worst nightmare to lose a beloved ranger in the line of duty. We are truly gutted.

Nsefu Wildlife is a very close-knit foundation. Every teammate is loved and appreciated, and we work together 365 days a year improving the lives of the people of Nsefu and the magnificent wildlife in our sector. A ranger’s job is a VERY hard one. Danger lurks everywhere. They work in brutal heat, rain, floods, etc., and in the terrain of wild animals. Every day brings a new challenge. Yet our brave men and women do their job with pride knowing the implicit danger of protecting wildlife and knowing their foundation has their back.

But now we are left with sadness and grief over the loss of our beloved Webby. He leaves behind a much-loved family, and he leaves behind a devastated foundation. We are committed to supporting Webby’s family through this grief and in the future. Many of you have reached out asking how you can honor Webby and help Webby’s family, therefore we have created a link in which you can donate. There is a very thin line between life and death in Africa, and Webby was the breadwinner in the family. The family has lost their husband and father, and we want to prevent financial devastation. This is a family in need. Thank you for thinking of Webby.

On behalf of myself, Victory, and Teams Nsefu USA and Zambia...thank you. We love you Webby!
